As Black children it is likely that we have all been admonished at some time about interjecting ourselves into adult conversations, or “standing up in front of grown folks”. While it is unlikely that we welcomed the scrutiny of adults, we did like to listen to what they were talking about (and often imitated how they said it).Those conversations afforded us another aspect of life-learning.
George Hammons and Rashaad Thomas are poets that delve fearlessly into the many facets of life, love and Blackness in ways that are evocative of Jazz, and likewise inform life-learning.
Their poetry will be punctuated by Gabriel Bey in the pure language of Jazz.
