Handcrafted–Indepth with Ink and Fiber
February 21, 2017 @ 1:00 pm - 3:15 pm
Free – $10Experience the past by creating objects by hand. In our new vintage maker space, get hands on with antique machines to create hand-made products. These clever machines use human power and demonstrate gears and flywheels in action. The machines are as fascinating as the materials they use and create. Explore the impact of technological change on everyday objects that we take for granted.
In the Ink Zone, make paper, ink and try out a dip pen. Try our letterpress and typewriters. Head home with your own handcrafted booklet, home-made ink and a dip pen for each student.
In the Fiber Zone, spin thread and use it in your own weaving. Sew a sachet on our treadle sewing machine and try out a sock knitting machine. Head home with a cardboard loom to weave your own bookmark.
Spend an hour in each zone. Bring a snack and take a break in between.
